The Story of How it All Started
In 1986, Graham Smith operated a haulage company and was asked by British Telecom to collect a range of equipment from a local telephone exchange and take it to a scrapyard for disposal.
While waiting to load the equipment, Graham couldn't help but notice that it seemed to be almost new. His curiosity getting the better of him, he asked why the equipment was being dumped. He was told that it required a modification that they couldn't find anyone to carry out. Therefore, the equipment had to be scrapped.
Unable to resist a challenge, Graham asked BT for the opportunity to investigate and quote on carrying out the modification work. BT agreed to the equipment being transported to his premises instead of the scrapyard, so that Graham could look into carrying out the work. He completed the modifications and these were soon approved by BT.
In fact, they were so happy with the cost savings, that they awarded Graham the contract to modify the remaining equipment. This was soon followed by further contracts and so began a successful relationship with BT which is now over 31 years old.
